Art Appreciation: The Ninja Turtles
My first class was Art Appreciation: The Ninja Turtles. I always thought it was quite cool that the Ninja Turtles were named after artists. So, not too much Harry Potter just yet. But I did inspire Karen Circa, a RL artist, to create another Art Appreciation class.
Journey of the Hero
Journey of the Hero is my favorite class to teach. It is great to see all the responses at the end of term, especially from those who do complete the term-long project (much more intimidating than it actually is!). The funny thing is I almost gave up on this class after writing two lessons. So, give a warm thanks to St.John Aloisius Sloots for the encouragement to finish this class. And I inch a little closer to the Harry Potter universe!
Basic Healing
Almost immediately after I finished Journey of the Hero, my mind finally clicks. How is pharmacy related to Harry Potter? Healing! Thus, Basic Healing was created in less than a month. Since the deadline for class applications had passed, I had a whole entire term to add as much lime green to the class website as possible!
Word magic
Next, while experimenting with so many different fonts when creating graphics for the yearbook, the idea for Word Magic came into effect. However, I let Jenna Hathaway write the font lesson, since she got me addicted. The rest of the lessons came fairly easily because I like rhymes and anagrams and other wordy items.
Chinese Festivals
Another great thing about HOL is that it makes you embrace your heritage. With all these people from different countries around the world, you get a chance to teach others about your culture. Amy Lupin asked me to think about teaching some Chinese language, so I made Chinese Festivals both culture and vocabulary. (I don't know if I can figure out the best way to teach grammar.)
Accidental Magic Reversal Squad
Accidental Magic Reversal Squad is a slight extension of Basic Healing with healers having a major role in the Accidental Magic Reversal Squad. I also got the chance to research different types of memory and revisit some meteorology that I find fascinating. Although I did not make a neat header for this class, I did doodle the designs for the awards. You can ignore my other notes. Big thanks to Dario Šehović for making the actual awards!
Poisons
Since I officially have a pharmacy degree (finally!), my Poisons class is an opportunity to share some of my knowledge. I did decide to stay away from discussing every medication, but many drugs are from natural sources so I couldn't completely avoid it. Instead, you will find information about poisonous plants, metals, gases, mushrooms, and animals with venom.
Confronting Your Boggart
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite book in the series. I found so many of the ideas introduced in the book very interesting - The Marauder's Map, Animagi, time travel, dementors, and... boggarts! Fear is something everyone can relate to and after doing some of my own research, Confronting Your Boggart was created!
